Tinei joined the ISPM team in 2019 to pursue a PhD, which he completed in December 2024. His doctoral research tackled emerging challenges in HIV management during the modern antiretroviral therapy era. He specifically explored the dynamics of excess weight gain and hypertension associated with dolutegravir, the intersection of ageing and HIV, cancer incidence, and viral suppression rates under dolutegravir-based therapy compared to older antiretrovirals. Tinei is a clinical scientist at Newlands Clinic, an IeDEA-SA site in Zimbabwe. The clinic, supported by the Ruedi Lüthy Foundation in Switzerland, is a private voluntary organization dedicated to providing comprehensive HIV care and driving impactful research.
